Diamond Hearths is pleased to announce several changes since 2014. It’s been a busy year in the R&D department, and we’ve constructed a new warehouse addition to help with the growth we are experiencing.
In addition to the Traditional Edge hearth pad that consisted of an angle iron frame, the new seamless Sapphire Aluminum Edge has arrived. Production of the patent pending new powder coated and extruded aluminum Sapphire Edged hearth pads begin May 1, 2015. These new ultra-light yet amazingly strong edges not only provide an architecturally pleasing edge profile but offer interior attachment sites, thereby creating a variety of core arrangement possibilities. Why is this important? Through research and testing, it has been found that a sealed interior airspace created by two substrates adds greater thermal protection. Thus producing increased R-values for those higher output radiant burning wood stoves of today. All non-combustible components used in our manufacturing process also add greater thermal protection and now even more wood burning stoves can safely be installed on these new hearth pads.
One core assembly is the Diamond Shield Duo-Core. Not only is it the lightest hearth pad in the industry, it has the highest thermal protection of any brand of hearth pad manufactured, with an R value of 2.0. This surpasses the other manufacturers ratings of 1.59-1.61. Another core arrangement found in our new Raised Stone-Edged hearths is the Diamond Shield Plus+ Core, boasting the highest R value of any upscale hearth ever at R value 3.1. This high level of thermal protection will accommodate any wood burning stove on the market. Recently tested at Omni Test Labs of Portland Oregon, these pads are certified for Type 2 level performance. No longer will you have to order a hearth pad and then attempt to determine what kind of additional thermal pedestal you will need in order to be in compliance with your wood stove installation. Choose from several of our stone and slate Raised Stone-Edged hearth pads and your job is done using a single hearth pad!
